About

Nick King is an astrophotographer based in Somerset. He has been imaging the night sky since the early 2000s, starting with planets and progressing through the full range of deep-sky, solar and wide-field subjects.

By day Nick works as a television editor — the same eye for detail and patience that goes into a complex edit goes into a long night's imaging session.

All images on this site are taken from his back garden or from dark-sky sites across the UK.

Nick's setup usually centres on a dedicated astronomy camera and a range of telescopes and lenses, depending on the target. The whole rig is computer controlled.

Processing is mainly done using PixInsight and Photoshop.

Earlier images (pre-2020) were taken with DSLR cameras. The History section contains archive images from 2003–2007 taken with the equipment of the time.
